Event Name: Shaker Kittenhead Basket Workshop

Details: Here is your chance to weave a small, Shaker Kittenhead basket that is based upon an antique Shaker cathead basket Sept. 30 at the Mennonite Heritage Center.   Students will learn to form the cathead shape on a mold, chase-weave the sides of the basket, notch a handle and lash a rim. This precious basket is a mere 2 3/4" in diameter x 3" tall with a handle. It’s a challenge but well worth the effort! Instructor Karen Wychock. Workshop fee $110 (includes all materials). Details: Come hear the story of the encampment of Gen. Washington and his soldiers as we walk on the grounds noting where soldiers camped and to see the gravesites where they were buried. All ages; FREE, suggested donation $2/person. Wear comfortable outdoor clothing and shoes. Stay after the walk for a guided tour of the mansion where there is a new temporary exhibit. In the fall of 1777, an encampment took place at the Mills during the Revolutionary War. From here, General Washington’s troops marched into Philadelphia and fought the Battle of Germantown, then retreated back to their old camp. On display will be artifacts found on the property including an actual order from General Washington. Included on all tours. All ages; FREE, suggested donation $2/person.

Details: See Bryn Athyn Cathedral in ways you never imagined. Starting Sunday October 1, come to Orchard Artworks and see Cathedral Inspirations. The exhibit by the father/daughter team, Steve and Shannah Conroy, will feature their photographs and ceramics. While Steve’s photographs interpret the cathedral’s beauty, physical setting and symbolic quality, Shannah’s ceramics reimagine the translucent qualities of the cathedral’s stained glass windows. The exhibit continues until Sunday, October 22. Gallery hours are 10 am-4 pm on Fridays and Saturdays and the first Thursday of each month, also 1-4 pm on Sundays.
