Details: Join us for a free, guided bird walk at Mill Grove. We’ll visit the creek, cross the meadows, and hike through the woods on both paved and unpaved trails. Children and beginners are welcome! We have extra binoculars, so don’t worry if you forget yours or don’t have them. Walks begin in the main parking lot. Facebook will be updated by 7:00 a.m. the day of each walk if we need to cancel due to inclement weather. No registration needed.

Details: The Mennonite Heritage Center, 565 Yoder Road, Harleysville, announces a Tufted Wool Embroidery Workshop scheduled for Saturday, September 23, 2017 from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.   Led by needlework artist Shirley Sacks, participants will create a colorful pincushion while learning this unique Pennsylvania German embroidery technique. The instructor will provide the star template, wool backing, two needles and needlepoint tapestry yarn along with the history and instruction for the pincushion. The class fee with materials is $72. Shirley will also bring antique examples of this textile art and tin template designs from her personal collection. A list of supplies will be sent with registration confirmation. Details: The Mennonite Heritage Center, Harleysville, and the Goschenhoppen Historians, Green Lane, are co-sponsoring a special one-day Hearth Cooking Workshop on Saturday, September 23, 2017, from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm.   This hands-on class will be led by food historians Melanie Baker and Joanne Kintner in the beautiful historic kitchen of the 18th century Antes House, Upper Frederick Township. Learn how early Pennsylvania German women skillfully used hot coals from the fireplace to make delicious “chicken on a string” and other culinary delights. The instructors will discuss the best types of wood for hearth cooking, the cooking utensils needed for cooking over wood coals and historic Pennsylvania German recipes.   Participants will enjoy a delicious late lunch created from the day’s instructions. Fee $70. Preregistration is necessary; limited to 10 participants

Details: Take a guided canoe tour of the Perkiomen Creek with one of our educators! View birds as they feed along the creek, explore the world of macro invertebrates, and hopefully catch a glimpse of an elusive muskrat! PFDs, canoes, and oars provided. All participants are required to wear a PFD.   Cost is $15 per person and registration is required via email (preferred) or phone. For groups of 10 or more, private canoe tours can be booked for any time throughout the week.

Details: Come take an airplane ride for just pennies-a-pound on September 23rd and September 24th at Pottstown Heritage Airport. Take a ride in an aircraft for just twenty cents per pound (minimum $10 and maximum $30). The Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of The Ninety-Nines will host their annual Pennies-A-Pound flying event at Pottstown Heritage Airport. Adventurers will get a twenty minute plane ride over Montgomery County in a small aircraft flown by one of our volunteer pilots. The tradition of pilots giving airplane rides to the public for just a penny per pound of a passenger’s weight started in the 1920s. The Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of The Ninety-Nines is proud to continue this tradition as a way to exemplify the role.   The event takes place (weather permitting) at Heritage Field Airport, KPTW, 3310 W Ridge Pike, Pottstown, PA 19464. For this reason, more and more businesses are using infographics to persuade their audience, tell a story, and display their data in a graphical way. In this workshop, we’ll be creating our own infographic based on a topic of your choosing. We’ll learn the difference between good and bad research, gather information, then use a free, online tool called Piktochart to make an infographic from the data you collected. Note: Some computers available, bring a laptop if you have one. Light snacks will be provided.

Details: Walk the Wissahickon offers people a chance to experience the beautiful Green Ribbon Trail, a 21-mile trail that follows the Wissahickon Creek from North Wales and eventually connects with Fairmount Park’s Forbidden Drive. Hikers can choose to walk 5, 8, 13 or 21 miles of the beautiful Green Ribbon Trail. The hikes are guided and include lunch, a t-shirt, bussing back to the start and gear support.
